About the venue
Bringing a playful twist to traditional agriculture, Red Mountain Open Farm invites visitors of all ages to come face to face with honking donkeys, frolicking lambs, and soft-eared little piggies messing about in the hay. The indoor enclosures are warm with the smell of small lives, from soft-coated rabbits and proud geese to the gentle tickle of a goat's mouth on an outstretched palm. A horse cart occasionally clip-clops through the yard, and there are pedal tractors and go karts to race around a rubber tyre track.
About the event
Easter Week visitors can rumble through the farm in one of the tractor trains that crisscross the fields, or simply take in the view of the Boyne Valley while nibbling lunch at a picnic table. Children will be catered for throughout, and youngsters can frolic to their heart's content in the indoor and outdoor play areas, which come complete with pedal carts, play houses, and a hay maze. Youngsters and adults alike can get up close and personal with the animals by petting and feeding kid goats, chicks, and rabbits, one of who may or may not be the Easter bunny himself.
Other attractions
Woody Ward's Farm Mobile Animal Theatre will be performing their new show 'Penelope's Pet Shop' over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, with two shows daily and a chance to meet the animal stars after each performance (theatre entrance €2.50 per person). For those keen on a spot of exploration, guests can embark on an organised country walk to discover more about this ancient part of Ireland, located just a few miles from Newgrange. If tummies rumble, there is an on-site cafe, where cuppas, soft drinks and snacks are on offer for a fee.
