Although speedy and accurate, travelling in paper planes is not recommended, as they run the risk of being turned into a pirate’s hat if they land on the wrong desk. Be a high flyer with today’s Groupon: €129 for an introductory flying lesson and six months of membership from Trim Flying Club.

Swooping the Irish skies for over 30 years, Trim Flying Club promotes amateur aviation, providing members with a fleet of training courses for private flying. Fully licensed by the Irish Aviation Authority, the company settles students into single-engine Cessna Skyhawk planes for winging their way towards becoming qualified pilots. Offering both practical and theoretical instruction, the voluntary organisation is staffed by a bunch of aviation enthusiasts, busy equipping the next generation of plane sailors.

The newly-winged are in the capable hands of a senior instructor as they take to the County Meath sky. Around 15 minutes are spent on the ground taxiing on the runways, before the plane soars for 30 minutes under the control of students carefully guided by their experienced co-pilot. For those bitten by the aerial bug, club membership is included for the following six months, giving access to aircraft and clubhouses, and the ability to book further flights and training.
