Chefs can get a little too enthusiastic in the kitchen, often feeling sheepish after lambasting the mutton. Be bold with today’s Groupon: €19 for a gastro pub meal for two with a glass of wine each at The Aurora.
Appetisingly placed in Dublin’s city centre on the corner of Eccles Street, The Aurora is a traditional bar serving contemporary food seasoned with flavoursome gastro fare. Beneath its burgundy and cream façade, the establishment curbs hunger cravings with light bites, such as sandwiches and salads, and bigger banquets in the shape of classic pub cuisine, steak, chicken, fish and creamy pasta dishes. While thirsts are quenched with globe-trotting wines, beers and colourful cocktails, the eatery appeases mini appetites with a bite-size children’s menu.
Taste buds can tuck into the slow-braised lamb shank dressed in a Port wine sauce (€14.50), the salmon fillet in a whiskey and mustard sauce (€14.50), or the baked Portobello mushroom in a creamy dressing (€12). All meals will be teamed with a glass of house wine (€5)which may be swapped for a beer or a soft drink.
Reviews
The Aurora receives a tasty 4/5 stars on Yelp and WhoseView reviewers also offer the restaurant a similar rating. Diners wrote fondly of the staff, the dishes and the value for their money.
I opted for the prawn cocktail as a starter, which was good, as was the soup of the day. For a main course I had bangers and mash (or some other rather more fancy name for it) and they were amazing.

The food is great and very good value for money. The staff are friendly and I haven't had a bad experience there yet.
