A few sandy steps from the beach, Latas Surf House hangs ten by the crashing waves of the Bay of Biscay, and the bright lights of Santander glimmering across the waters. The lodge sits snug in Somo, giving it easy access to one of the largest beaches in the region. Warmed by the gulf stream, sets are served up from the Atlantic waves in the Bay of Biscay, and sun-drenched days end with west-facing views on the sun sinking below the horizon.

The Surf House
A surf school and lodging in one, Latas Surf House provides a wetsuit full of instruction, chilling-out, and totally rad BBQs all in one. Lessons take place in groups of no more than six and hit the waters Monday to Friday, with a bit of theory also included. The house itself is kited out with a kitchen and common room, with the ample garden blossoming with outdoorsy activities. An indo board and slackline are available for land-based practicing, while volleyball and indoor games set the entertainment standards high.
With lessons embracing the taste of the waves from 11am-1pm on five weekdays of the stay, surfers can continue to improve their technique at their own leisurely pace with equipment hire included for the rest of each lesson day. Once back on dry land, don the flip-flops and saunter around Somo, exploring the beachfront bars and restaurants, while making time to pop into the backstreet ceramic workshops that put the town on the arty map. Head into Santander and visit the 20th century Magdalena Palace which sits majestically on the peninsula looking out across the bay, and stay behind in the city afterwards for a proper night out on the town.
• In a shared room with up to three other people
