Basking in the limestone landscape of the south and sheltered from the rugged Atlantic breezes of the west, Westport Country Lodge Hotel is a stately retreat near the base of County Mayo. The third largest county in Ireland, the area is home to striking landscapes dotted with Neolithic stone circles and pirate queen relics, alongside rolling heaths of countryside ganders. Hiking up to the Croaghaun, 900ft high cliffs plunge down into the Atlantic Ocean, and sheltered bays provide playgrounds for bottlenose dolphins.

Groupon Recommends
Lined with Georgian architecture, Westport is a three mile jaunt from the hotel, with its lively nightlife offerings, and picture postcard promenade along the Carrow Beg river. The town was originally built to accommodate the workers of the impressive Westport House, which is now open to the public as a famous heritage site. The pilgrimage mountain of Croagh Patrick lies to the west of the town with a church on the summit, and the blue flag beaches of Clew Bay have gaping sands for winter walks.

Reviews
Westport Country Lodge comes highly recommended by TripAdvisors who rated it a nicely-appointed 4.5/5. Guests shared their appreciation for the staff and their attention to detail as well as the hotel's spacious rooms.
The rooms are modern , spacious and very good value for money. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times and the meals were of a high standard and reasonably priced. The hotel is just outside Westport town but has lovely views over the countryside and Croagh Patrick.

All in all, a lovely stay. If you want a piece of quiet time but within close distance of Westport, i.e., a 3 minutes drive this is the place to stay. Also on the second night as we were waiting for our taxi to arrive and looking out at the lashing rain outside we were escorted to our taxi under an umbrella and told we could have it for the night!
