The house in which the museum is set is the actual birthplace of President John F. Kennedy’s greatgrandfather, Patrick who eventually left Ireland for Massachusetts in 1848. The site was home to five generations of one of the world’s most famous dynasties, and is today still farmed by descendants of the former president. The museum aims to tell the story of “the Kennedy’s who went away and the Kennedy’s who stayed behind”. What exhibits are there? The museum which is brand new, having opened in June 2013 contains a guided tour with audiovisuals, photographs and an interpretive display, leading visitors around the lives of key players in the Kennedy family, including the original migrant, Patrick, President John Fitzgerald, Attorney General Bobby, Senator Ted, and the founder of the Special Olympics, Eunice Shriver.
